I like the fact that it has a 10 foot cord so you have a lot of floor space to work with. If I didn’t own a Drinkwell original already I would consider this my next choice. You can purchase Cat Mate Replacement Filter Cartridges and they too are reasonably priced.

In fact many owners mention they owned other brands of pet fountains and liked this one better especially since it was less noisy. As with all pet fountains you must keep them filled with water or the motor will make lots of noise and give out eventually. Many owners also use filtered water to start with.

We purchased this product hoping our cats would stop drinking out of our glasses. That behavior hasn't stopped but it's greatly improved. The unit was easy to assemble and operates very quietly. The cats were skittish at first, but their natural curiosity won out and they were drinking from it within about 20 minutes. One cat really likes drinking from the top, the other prefers the pool on the bottom. Cleaning isn't very hard, as it's easy to take apart and put back together. The cord is a good length, and has a break away in the middle to make it easy to take apart to clean without having to unplug the entire thing from the wall. Very nice unit. I'm glad we purchased it.

Our beloved cat has been a water-fiending monster forever. Always trying to drink from our cups if they're unguarded, and to drink from the running sink, always meowing and meowing near the sink about it, very, very picky about his water (the temperature, everything). (And no, he's not sick, we checked.) So he would wake us up to meow about wanting different water than what he had even if his was fresh.

NOT ANYMORE THOUGH (hardly). He finally likes something! This fountain is pretty cool and there is a noticeable drop in him sticking his face in our water. He started using it after a few hours. He used to do acrobatics to get at human water but I haven't seen that since we got this and he no longer cries for our water. The other cat is a little funny about it and gets in a very odd position to stick her face JUST SO and gets her little kitty beard all wet but overall it seems a success.

It's nice that the kitties never run out of water with this - it lasts for longer, like if we're gone overnight or even a few days. It's a bit hard to clean - it gets gunked up here and there and some stuff has built up I can't clean, period, like stains - and it can run a bit loud every so often if it's positioned unevenly on the floor, but other than that it's whisper quiet when all is well. It is silent enough when positioned evenly that we have it in our bedroom and can't hear it.

I have 2 large Maine Coon cats. I have had both Drinkwell and PetMate fountains. The Cat Mate is a thousand times better: cats easy with it, it's simple to clean and keep clean. A truly superior product.
